Overview

"Concepts around consciousness have always been the driving force behind my work. By approaching the subject from slightly different angles in each group or series of paintings, which are defined by a common title, I try to shed light on our particular form of existence."

Dreams have always been an important point of reference for Liliane Tomasko and represent a blending of the past and the now. They have no history in the conventional sense, but all the more a sensual quality. The artist captures this sensuality in her paintings.

During the painting process, she binds the hidden and fleeting to the body of colour: all feelings, thoughts, emotions, desires, fears, doubts and anxieties are collected and formed into linear structures in order to take centre stage on the painted surface. There they bounce off each other, merge and mix or are separated by sprayed or painted lines that range from wafer-thin to solid.

While the works on linen often show a clear direction in painting, those paintings on aluminium are laid out in different directions, they are more moving, more open and their sensuality is sometimes a little more confused.
