Mystery, bearer of knowledge, silent observer: the tree is deeply rooted in culture - as a mediator between the divine and the human, as an object of science, as a warning signal of ecological (mis)developments. With the tree, the Belvedere is dedicating an exhibition to one of the most important subjects in the history of art and its multi-layered relationship to man, encompassing numerous styles and epochs.
