Under the title Seeds of Time, the ALBERTINA is showing a selection of recent works by Hubert Scheibl, most of which were created in the seclusion of the pandemic. Questions about life and death, about nature with its mutations and the evolution of the smallest building blocks of life, of cells, viruses and bacteria, come to the fore under the new circumstances. The pandemic unhinges our world: A virus impressively proves for all to see that time and space are only relative quantities in the face of elementary threats. Familiar points of reference are shifted and have to be redefined. Past, present and future are condensed into a fleeting moment captured in a painting that negates the linear continuity of time. Chance and the uncontrollable take centre stage - just like in Scheibl's art.
