Foreword
"Painting is often personal in a strange meaningless way."
Hubert Scheibl bestows upon us an infinite abundance of dreams with his paintings. Each individual work radiates calm and vitality in equal measure, each series speaks its own intuitive language. Explanations of his work are rarely given by the artist, the viewers are supposed to empathise with the picture, to have a dialogue and to allow their own feelings. For Scheibl, the act of painting is an intimate one. He does not like to be looked over his shoulder while painting.
The exhibition "End of Flags", which is accompanied by this catalogue, grants us a personal insight.
We were able to realise the publication within a very sporting timeframe, and for this we would like to thank the artist Hubert Scheibl himself, his studio under Sini Sein, our collaborator Michael Woutsas, the author Florian Steininger, our graphic designer Johanna Rasberger and all the helpers who contributed to making this catalogue available for the exhibition opening.
Hubert, we thank you for your friendship, the great cooperation and your fantastic pictures. And, of course, we also want to use this publication to wish you a very happy birthday!
