In Prousts „Die Gefangene“ besucht der kranke Protagonist Bergotte mit letzter Kraft eine Vermeer-Ausstellung, weil er von einem Detail eines Gemäldes gehört hat, einem Farbton, einer eigentümlichen gelben Mauerecke.

Er kennt das Bild in- und auswendig, kann sich aber an dieses Detail nicht erinnern.

Als er vor dem Bild steht und dieses farbige Detail auch sieht, ist der kranke Bergotte so freudig aufgelöst, dass er beim Anblick des Farbdetails stirbt.

In Proust's “The Prisoner”, the sick protagonist Bergotte visits a Vermeer exhibition with the last of his strength because he has heard about a detail of a painting, a shade, a peculiar yellow corner of the wall.

He knows the painting inside out, but cannot remember this detail.

When he stands in front of the painting and sees this color detail, the sick Bergotte is so elated that he dies at the sight of the color detail.
